Easel Activities #10

Parchment Paper Batik

This is a fun activity that simulates the wax resist technique for batik. Cut, or have your child cut, a few pieces of masking tape and stick them to the side of your easel.  Attach a piece of parchment paper to your easel. Have your child place the pieces of tape wherever they want. Apply paint using any technique you want. In the photos below we used a paint roller to apply paint. Finally, have your child peel the pieces of tape from the picture. As your child completes the activity ask questions (and answer them yourself if your child is not yet talking) such as, “what do you think we will see under the tape?”

I think this would help kids understand how things work & could open up a lot of creative designs.
